Getting
your business on the web
Most
companies are now aware of the potential of the web for doing
business even if they are not sure how to harness it.
Every
day new services become available and products can be viewed
and bought over the net using credit card transactions from
what are known as e-commerce sites. There are fears over users
submitting credit card details over the net but there are
plenty of secure measures implemented into these sites to
stop a third party seeing your details as they pass through
cyberspace.
Companies
using the Internet to their advantage can discover a new untapped
market for their products or services especially if they are
highly specialised or unique. As the Internet expands it is
likely that having some kind of presence will be essential
for business's credibility. But where do you start? Registering
your own name will cost about £100 and finding a host can
cost between £300 and £400 before evenconsidering design costs.

If you take this step you need to keep
updating the site on a regular basis. This will ensure that
regular customers keep returning to view latest news and products
about your company. Whether you attract completely new customers
or not this approach will ensure you keep in touch with existing
ones.
If you wish to market your company to a wider customer base
you will need to register the web-site with several search
engines. Search engines rank sites in various ways and getting
your site to the top is becoming an art form! Expanding the
site or establishing links with our other sites can push nearer
to the top. Many industries have web-sites dedicated to products
and companies involved. They make money by selling advertising
space on the site to companies advertising their products.
These adverts often place banner ads on specific pages which
"click through" to their own site. Advertising in this way
can be expensive and considerable research should be done
on the number of visitors to the site.
Whatever
you do, remember that the web is an infant and will grow in
many ways we cannot currently appreciate. Watch this space.
